Swarnalatha

                       (1987 – 2010)

                  Swarnalatha (1973 – twelve sep 2010) was associate in nursing indian playback singer. from 1987 onward, she rendered nearly 7,000 songs in several languages .

                  She won the national film award for best feminine playback singer for her rendition of the song "porale ponnuthayi" from the film karuththamma. the song was composed by a. r. rahman, beneath whose musical direction she recorded several unforgettable songs. her distinctive voice, that might effortlessly reach high octaves, quickly created her a reputation to reckon with within the playback music trade.
 

Life

             She was born in athikkodu close to chittur, palakkad , kerala , to k. c. cherukutty and kalyani. her father was a decent organ player and singer. her mother additionally had interest in music. swarnalatha was trained on the organ and keyboard. swarnalatha's family later affected to bhadravathi (paper town) in shimoga district , wherever she had her education.born in a very family of musicians (father k. c. cherukutty was a singer and organ player , whereas sister saroja was her music guru initially). swarnalatha took to music once she was in her teens.


               In 1987, she shifted to madras , wherever she met m. s. viswanathan. m.s.v. introduced her to the industry through a duet with k. j. yesudas , "chinnanchirukiliye kannamma" from the film neethikku dhandanai. after, several different music administrators approached her to perform their songs. she was recruited by legendary musicians like ilaiyaraaja and a. r. rahman. she conjointly recorded many hindi songs , the foremost notable one being "haiavatar yeh kya hua" from rangeela at the side of hariharan.

2000 : Tamil nadu state film award for best female playback for "evano oruvan" from alaipayuthey 

Government Awards:

1994: Kalaimamani award by the government of tamil nadu for her contributions towards tamil music.  

Other Awards:

2002 : The song "rakkama kaiya thattu" from the movie thalapathi (1991) was among the songs listed in a bbc world top ten music poll. it was performed by s. p. balasubrahmanyam and swarnalatha

In a.r.rahman's music :

               Swarnalatha died at a non-public hospital in metropolis at the age of thirty seven as a result of pathology followed by opening respiratory organ malady (lung infection) once being admitted as a result of she had problem in respiration. the singer had been undergoing treatment for respiratory organ infection for over a year and had not recorded for films throughout the amount.



              Legendary music musician m s viswanathan , who gave the then 14-year recent swarnalatha a chance in films , delineated her as a awfully proficient singer. she is believed to possess approached him initial, once she needed to launch her career in film music. he gave her an opportunity within the film needhikku thandanai.
