                  She began her career by providing vocals for ad jingles composed by a. r. rahman, viji manuel etc. she debuted as a playback singer through the film nadodi thendral, with music by ilayaraja. ace indian musician a. r. rahman's debut album, set pine tree state free (also referred to as shubhaa set pine tree state free) had all its songs sung by malgudi shubha. the album that was discharged in early nineties by some native labels went unnoticed ,however became an honest vender once it had been re-released in 1996 by the label magna sound.
                 Her 1st productive album, chikpak chikbhum, that was discharged in madras, sold eight 100000 copies. the songs were composed by raj-koti, underneath whom a.r.rahman was motor-assisted
