                Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao (1922–1974) was a Legendary & distinguished Indian Playback Singer and music musician of Telugu films and lots of different languages like Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu and Hindi. He was the recipient of the Padmashree award, India's fourth highest civilian award.

                For nearly quite 1 / 4 of a century, his was the distinguished voice of Telugu films. He herb in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu and Hindi films. He composed exemplary music for quite one hundred movies in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. On eleven Feb 2003, a stamp was free in honor of Ghantasala at Telugu Lalita Kala Toranam, Public Gardens, Hyderabad.

Life


             Ghantasala was born to Soorayya, United Nations agency was a neighborhood singer, in an exceedingly ancientTelugu Brahmin family in 1922. throughout his childhood, Ghantasala accustomed dance to his father's Tarangams. He lost his father once he was a baby, and was mentioned by his maternal uncle Ryali Pitchi Ramaiah. He took formal music coaching from Patrayani Sitarama Sastry, conjointly referred to as Saluru China Guruvu Garu, and he joined Maharajah's Government faculty of Music and Dance in Vijayanagram while not informing his family.                Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao was married to Late Sarala Devi. and Savithri. Ghantasala had eight youngsters, four sons (Vijaya Kumar, Ravi Kumar, sitar player Kumar and Ratna Kumar) and 4 daughters (Syamala, Suguna, Meera and Shanti).

Awards 

Ghantasala was honoured with the "Padmashri" by the Government of India. 
He won the best playback singer award in AP State every year for nearly 3 decades of his entire career as playback singer. 
Various Awards after his name are given every year to various musical artists viz., "Ghantasala melody king award" - Popular artists who are recipients of this award include K J Yesudas, Playback singer; P Suseela, playback singer, Indian Idol Sri Ramachandra etc. 
Ghantasala Arts Academy has instituted the "Ghantasala National Award" and the first award was given to S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, playback singer. 
The Government music college in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh is named after Ghantasala.
"Ghantasala Sangeetha Kalasala" college in Hyderabad and Vizag offers six-month and one-year diploma courses on Ghantasala light music, songs and music. 

Ghantasala is the first movie singer-composer of the South in whose memory a stamp and first day cover was released in the year 2003 by the Govt. of India. 
After the saint poet Annamacharya in the 15th Century, Ghantasala has been the only singer who rendered devotional songs inside the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple near the Lord - Moola Virat.
