                 Amirbai karnataki ( 1906 – march 3, 1965) was a renowned actress/singer and playback singer of the first hindi cinema and was renowned as south dravidian kokila. Mohandas karamchand gandhi was a zealous fan of her song vaishnav jan to.

Life


                  Amirbai karnataki was born in bilgi city, district of bijapur in province into a socio-economic class family. of all of her 5 sisters, amirbai and her elder sister, gauharbai, earned fame and fortune. amirbai completed her matric and visited mumbai at the age of fifteen.

Death


                She had a paralytic attack in 1965, died simply four days later and was buried in her town. a cinema still runs within the name of 'amir talkies' within the town of bijapur by her family.
